How to Write a Pet Sitting Contract?

Pet Sitting Agreement will vary greatly due to the species of the animal, its age, and needs. This makes it especially important to be thorough in your contract to help the pet sitter understand exactly what is expected of them. Below is a list of clauses you will want to include in your contract:

  1. The length of time the pet sitter has agreed to care for your pets, and if possible, the expected time of day you plan to leave at return. Rough estimates such as early morning, mid-afternoon, or evening can also be acceptable if you are unsure of how long it will take you to return from your trip.
  2. The rate of pay you and the pet sitter have agreed upon and how you will be paying them (such as cash, check, or digital money payment).
  3. Location for where the pet sitter will be expected to care for the animal. For example, you will want to note if you are expecting the pet sitter to remain in your home for the duration of your time away or will they be taking the animal back to their home.
  4. The list of duties the pet sitter will be required to complete while caring for your pet. This will include daily activities such as walking, feeding, administering medications, and interacting with your pet. It can also include weekly duties (if you will be away an extended amount of time) such as grooming or training.
  5. The name and contact information for your veterinarian in case an unscheduled visit is needed. You will also want to contact your veterinarian's offices and let them know you will be away and give them the name and contact information of your pet sitter.
  6. You will also want to include an indemnification clause for the pet sitter stating they are not liable in the case of an unforeseen injury or death of your pet.
  7. Several emergency contacts in case the pet sitter is unable to reach you. This could be if the pet sitter becomes ill, is in an accident, or is somehow otherwise unable to care for the animal and will need to find a suitable replacement.
