Several hundred students choose to transfer to Liberty University each semester from community, Christian, public, and private colleges and universities. Our Admissions Counselors and Transcript Evaluators are trained professionals who provide ongoing support. We understand that you have worked hard for the college credit you have earned and expect to transfer as much as possible toward your degree completion plan.

Transfer Credit Limits

• Associate degree – A minimum of 15 credits must be taken through Liberty University.
• Bachelor’s degree – A minimum of 30 credits and 25% of the coursework required for the major content area must be taken through Liberty University.

Transfer Credit Policy

Undergraduate transfer credit is permitted from an accredited institution for those courses with a grade of “C” or better and similar in content and scope to courses offered at Liberty University.

• Grades
  A grade of “C” or better is required. Pass/Fail grades do not transfer unless they are equivalent to “C” or higher according to the transcript. Transfer credits are given grades of P (for Pass) and are not calculated into the Liberty GPA.
• 2/3 Rule
  In order for a transfer course to meet a particular course requirement, the course must be at least 2/3 of the number of hours of instruction at Liberty University. For example, BUSI 310 is taught as a 3 semester hour course. In order to receive credit for BUSI 310, the course taken previously must be worth at least 2 semester credits, which satisfies the 2/3 rule.
• Elective Credit
  Courses that do not match a Liberty course may be eligible to transfer as elective credit. Elective credit is coded as 1XX, 2XX, 3XX, or 4XX, depending on the level of the course.

Non-Transferable Courses

• Remedial courses (usually numbered 1-99)
• College orientation/student success courses
• Courses with “Pass”/“Fail” grades or “Satisfactory” grades (unless “P” is equivalent to a “C” or higher on the transcript)
• Continuing Education Credits (CEU) – exception may be made for recommendations by the American Council on Education (ACE)
• Professional development, special topics, seminars, or internships

Courses transferable under special conditions

• Capstone courses transfer as elective credit only (will NOT transfer as a capstone course)
• Internships and practicum courses transfer as elective credit only
• Seminars and workshops only transfer if the course is a standard college course offered on a regular basis with a standard syllabus
• Varsity or intramural sports – only transfer if college-level (100 or above) and averaged into GPA at previous school
